A light drizzle welcomed the 22 anglers who ventured out to this weeks match at the boatyards and after last weeks improvement in weights there was some optimism about how it would fish.
For about the first 2 .5 hours of the match the optimism seemed to be correct as everyone seemed to be catching – and some seemed to be emptying it! Mike Dossena on peg 20 on the big basin got off to a flyer only to have his peg completely ruined when a boat attempted to moor right on top of him! (Don’t think “sorry I didn’t see you there” really consoled Mike).
Unfortunately the catching slowed down to scratching for bites in the last 2 hours of the match as the fish just switched off . Something to do with low tide according to Colin………
Mark Charlwood clocked up his first win of the winter from peg 3 on the top of the Crane Basin with 8lb 8oz. Mark said he caught 8lb in the first 2 hours and 8oz in the last 3hrs.
Ian Jones was on peg 9 on goose green and came in 2nd with 8lb 4oz then came Jon Burton in 3rd with 7lb 13oz off peg 13 on the river.
There were no blanks again this week and all sections were won with over 5.5lb so it makes for a closely contested match with the winners coming from different sections and the fish seem spread throughout the basins.
Next week it’s the Hickling Shield ………………See you there…….might even get my car back by then!!!!
