The forecast was for an overcast day with light east winds and no rain but that was a bit inaccurate as we had sunshine and rain during the day but nothing too unpleasant. 23 anglers lined up for the draw all chasing the elusive “winning peg” and it turned out to be Mark Harmer who masnaged to find it. Mark drew peg 4 near the top of the right side of the Crane Basin and managed to snare 3 big skimmers in his first few put ins to help him on his way to a very good 17lb 9oz weight and 1st place this week. Chris Tims was happy with his draw of 24 which put him on the 2nd jetty in the Big Basin which, although didn’t fish as well as it had in practice, still gave him 15lb 3oz which was enough for 2nd. John Higginson caught all day at the top of the big basin opposite the wet shed for 14lb 4oz and 3rd this week. Elsewhere there were double figure weights in all basins, with the Big Basin producing 6 double figures out of 10 anglers and the lowest weight in there was 8lb 12oz it is pretty consistent. Next week it is the 2nd round of the Singles KO (see who you are against here) Please note Mr Harmer and Mr Tims have no further interest in the Singles this year having both had a great day in the 1st round!!!!! Lets hope the fishing continues to be good and the weather kind…….. See you there
Beautiful autumn sunshine welcomed the 25 anglers who came to compete in the Charity Match this Sunday. With the bright conditions and a blustery east wind the pre-match talk was of a hard(ish) day on the cards but that did not (thankfully) happen. This week it was the river pegs at the very top of the Big Basin near the slip way that produced the winning weight with Dave Edgerton putting 15lb 9oz on the scales for 1st place. On the 1st jetty in the Big Basin sat a certain Mr Charlwood who had a busy day with around 300 fish for 14lb 13oz and 2nd place. Then Andy Dicken on the 3rd jetty and Jon Burton, who was next to the winner near the slipway, both had 13lb 3oz for joint 3rd. The Big Basin continues to be the place to draw although you needed 8lb+ to win any section this week and the pegs on the river all fished well. Maybe they will be in again next week!!! I am informed by Colin that £137 was raised for the charity. Just a normal club match next week – perhaps I will draw somewhere on the big basin…. with a peg full of fish ….( I can dream can’t I ) …….. See you there……

Another good turnout this Sunday with 24 members lining up for the all important draw. With wind and rain showers forecast everyone was keen to get set up before the weather arrived and with the new jetties on the big basin pegged this week it was going to be interesting to see what they produced. The Big Basin turned out to be best this week, with the top 3 all coming from adjacent pegs at the top end opposite the wet shed. Dennis Willis was at the end of the office buildings and had a good day with an 18lb 1oz for 1st place this week. He was followed by Andy Dicken who was on the peg to Dennis’s left where he caught 14lb 11oz for 2nd. Mark Charlwood was on the peg to the right of the winner and had 12lb 12oz for 3rd. Overall the weights were on the up with half the field having double figures and some quality skimmers and perch showing in all basins. Dave Agass had 2 good perch in his 12lb+ net on the Crane Basin with the best one weighing 2lb 8oz. So a good day was had by most and the weather improved as well. The verdict on the new jetties is they are fishable but you may have to adjust your tackle slightly to accommodate the restricted width. Next week it is the Charity Match so don’t forget it will cost you £5 extra to fish on Sunday – let’s hope the fish fish keep feeding………See you there….
Some very pleasant autumnal weather welcomed the competitors who lined up for this weeks match at the Boatyards with light winds and sunshine. It was a good turnout with a 25 members all keen to catch a few fish. This weeks winner was Mike Brown who caught some good skimmers from his peg up the left side of the Crane Basin on single Pinkie!! for a winning 13lb 9oz. In second place was Mike Dossena who had 12lb 15oz from his peg a third of the way up the right side of the Crane Basin. Then we swap basins to the Big Basin where John Hehir had a busy day on the whip to catch 10lb 10oz from his peg in front of the offices to secure 3rd place. John did say that the only quiet spell he had was when a certain Mr Harmer came round to talk to him and as soon as he went away the fish came back. Sort of sums up Mark’ s day, he had already scared all the fish out of his peg by then!!!! Overall the weights were pretty good with quite a few big skimmers and some quality perch showing up. Next week is the 1st round of the Singles Knock Out so let’s hope the weather is kind and there are plenty of pegs available……See you there…
